Era odată o capră care avea trei iezi. Iedul cel mic era foarte cuminte și harnic, pe când cel mare și cel mijlociu erau năzdrăvani și neascultători.
Într-o zi, capra i-a chemat pe iezi și le-a spus că ea va merge în pădure, pentru a le aduce mâncare. I-a avertizat să încuie ușa după ea și să nu o deschidă până nu aud glasul ei. Iezii au fost de acord cu mama lor. Ascultători, au închis ușa după ea și au tras zăvorul. Un lup care a ascultat tot ceea ce le-a spus capra iezilor, s-a apropiat de ușă.
Lupul cel rău a început să bată în ușă și să strige către iezi, spunând că este capra. Iedul cel mare s-a dus numaidecât la ușă, gata să o deschidă. Cel mic l-a avertizat că nu este mama lor, căci glasul ei este mult mai subțire.
Auzind acestea, lupul și-a ascuțit limba și dinții, apoi a cerut din nou să intre. Iedul cel mare, de frică să nu-și lase mama să aștepte pe afară, a deschis ușa. Iedul cel mic a fugit în coșul cuptorului, cel mijlociu s-a ascuns sub pat, iar cel mare a dat nas în nas cu lupul cel rău.
Pe loc, iedul cel mare a fost înghițit de lup, căruia îi sclipeau ochii de flămând ce era. După ce l-a mâncat pe iedul cel mare, lupul s-a așezat pe pat să se odihnească. Era convins că a auzit mai multe glasuri în casă!
La un moment dat, lupul cel rău a strănutat. De sub pat, iedul mijlociu i-a urat „Sănătate!”.
Așa că, lupul l-a mâncat și pe el.
Când a văzut acesta că nu mai este nimeni în casă, a plecat. Atunci, iedul cel mic s-a dat jos din coș, a încuiat ușa și a început să plângă după frățiorii lui.
Când a auzit vocea caprei la ușă, a fugit să-i deschidă și să îi povestească cele întâmplate. Capra a spus că-l va învăța minte pe lup: „Nicio faptă fără răsplată!”.
În apropierea casei era o groapă foarte adâncă și caprei i-a venit o idee. Însă, înainte de toate, a făcut o mulțime de bucate delicioase: sarmale, plăcinte și multe alte bunătăți. Apoi, ea a aprins focul în groapă și a acoperit-o cu frunze și cu o rogojină. Planul ei era să îl invite pe lup la masă, așa că a pornit spre pădure să îl caute.
Lupul cel rău s-a prefăcut că nu știe ce s-a întâmplat cu iezii caprei și a acceptat invitația.
Acasă, capra i-a pus masa lupului, oferindu-i toată porția de sarmale. De lacom ce era, lupul cel rău a înghițit sarmalele întregi, una după alta. În timp ce se ospăta, a căzut în groapa cu foc.
Și așa a scăpat capra de lup! Toate celelalte capre din vecini s-au bucurat nespus la această veste, căci astfel puteau să își lase iezii singuri acasă, fără a se teme că vor fi mâncați de lup.
In English:
Once upon a time there was a mother goat that had three kids. The little kid was very good and hardworking, while the big and middle kids were naughty and disobedient.
One day the mother goat called the kids and told them that she was going to the forest to bring them food. She warned them to lock the door after her and not to open it until they heard her voice. The kids agreed with their mother. Obedient, they closed the door behind her and pulled the latch. A wolf who listened to everything the mother goat told the kids, approached the door.
The bad wolf began to knock on the door and call out to the goats, saying that it was the mother goat. The big kid immediately went to the door, ready to open it. The little one warned him that it was not their mother, for her voice was much higher.
Hearing this, the wolf sharpened his tongue and teeth, then again asked to enter. The big kid, afraid of leaving his mother waiting outside, opened the door. The little goat ran into the chimney, the middle one hid under the bed, and the big one came face to face with the bad wolf.
On the spot, the big kid was swallowed by the wolf, whose eyes were shining with hunger. After eating the big kid, the wolf sat down on the tree to rest. He was convinced that he heard several voices in the house!
At one point, the bad wolf sneezed. From under the bed, the middle kid said, “Bless you!”.
So the wolf ate him too.
When he saw that there was no one in the house, he left. Then the little kid got down from the chimney, locked the door and started crying for his little brothers.
When he heard the mother goat’s voice at the door, he ran to open it and tell her what had happened. The mother goat said that she would teach the wolf: “No deed without reward!”.
There was a very deep pit near the house and the mother goat got an idea. But above all, she made a lot of delicious dishes: stuffed cabbage, pies and many other goodies. Then she lit a fire in the pit and covered it with leaves and a mat. Her plan was to invite the wolf to the table, so she set off into the forest to look for him.
The bad wolf pretended not to know what happened to the goat kids and accepted the invitation.
At home, the mother goat set the wolf’s table, offering him all the food. Greedy as he was, the bad wolf swallowed the stuffed cabbages whole, one after another. While feasting, he fell into the pit of fire.
And so the goat escaped from the wolf! All the other goats in the neighborhood were overjoyed at this news, because they could leave their kids alone at home without fear of being eaten by the wolf.
